Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins

Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins is the tenth First Spouse Gold Coins series. It was available for sale on the 2nd July 2009. The second series of the Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins was released during the same year of Anna Harrison. The birth date of Letitia Tyler is on the 12th November 1790. She has good manner and work as a housewife at home. She always looked after the needs of the Tyler family.

Letitia encountered John Tyler in 1808. At that time, Tyler was enrolled in a law school. She was courted by John Tyler for 5 years before she got married to him. Letitia married Tyler when she was 23 years old. She and Tyler had 29 years of happy marriage. She is always devoted to caring for her husband and family rather than appearing in front of the public. When her husband became president, she contracted with the paralytic stroke disease. John Tyler became president in between 1841 – 1845. Because she suffered from a paralytic stroke disease, she was unable to move around easily. As a result, she couldn’t serve as the First Spouse of the president. She died when she was 52 years old, in 1842.

The obverse side of the coin features the portrait of Letitia Tyler and several inscriptions. The inscriptions on the obverse side of the coin include In God We Trust, Liberty 2009 W, First Spouse year 1841 – 1842 and the 10th presidential order. Phebe Hemphill designed the obverse side of the coin. The reverse side of the coin illustrates Letitia and her two children. The scenery in the background of the coin is the Cedar Grove Plantation. Letitia managed the grove efficiently so that Tyler don’t have to worry about it and can concentrate on politics completely. The inscriptions on the reverse side of the coin include the face value $10, E Pluribus Unum, gold content of ½ oz, purity content of “.9999 fine gold” and United States of America. On the reverse side of the coin, there is an inscription that reads Cedar Grove Plantation. Susan Gamble designed the illustration on the reverse side of the coin. Norman E. Nemeth sculpted the reverse side of the coin.

The Letitia Tyler First Spouse Gold Coins series are available in two versions. The proof version is priced at $629 while the uncirculated version is priced at $614. The maximum mintage for the proof and uncirculated versions is 40,000 coins. The coins were made available to the market in June 2009. The sales of the coin came to an end on the 3rd June 2010. It is the first First Spouse Gold Coins to be sold out early. The sales record shows than 5163 of proof coins were sold. It also showed that 3152 uncirculated coins were sold. The prices for the coin were adjusted based on the rise and fall of the gold rate. The diameter of the coin is 1.041 inches while the thickness of the coin is 0.074 inches. The weight of the coin is 0.5 troy oz.
